This years VIRGIN London Marathon , 25th April 2010

It's happening today

Janna, A Director of Robinson's Fresh Foods, and John Horsthuis's daughter, will be competing in this event together with her husband, Ross.

John competed in a previous event, known then as the Flora London Marathon, in 2002 and completed the course in an extremely respectable 3 hours 40 minutes and 50 seconds!. John's chosen charity was also Cystic Fibrosis and he managed to raise in excess of £16,000.

Family honour is at stake and the gauntlet has been laid !

Here is a message to you all from Janna

Hi Everybody,

Thank you for taking the time to read this page. As you can see Ross & I are attempting the London Marathon on Sunday 25th April. Well actually I decided to do the London Marathon & have twisted my husband's arm to do it with me...more than likely to drag me over the finishing line! I think Ross is already fed up of my constant talking while we are training!

We are actually raising money for two charities, Cystic Fibrosis & Get Kids Going. We unfortunately can only donate online to one charity. We will split out total both online & offline donations equally to both charities.

Cystic Fibrosis is a very important charity for my family. Both my grandparents from my mother's side of the family were carriers of the disease. Unfortunately they had two children born with the disease. Peter was just 9 months when he died. My Auntie Julie was also born with Cystic Fibrosis fortunately she lived until she was 15. You can't ever imagine what that must have been like to loose no only 1 child but 2 to the same disease.

Cystic Fibrosis can now be detected. So far only 3 relatives in my family are carriers although not all have been tested.

Cystic Fibrosis is one of the UK's most common, life-threatening, inherited diseases.

There is currently no cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust funds research to find an effective treatment for CF through gene therapy and they believe that this is going to be the nearest thing to a cure in the forseeable future.

Through research, better understanding and treatment of Cystic Fibrosis, life expectancy is increasing. Around half of those with CF today can expect to live over 35 years - not good enough, but getting better.

The second Charity we are raising money for is 'Get Kids Going'

Get Kids Going! is a National charity which gives disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 yrs - the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport. They help promote sports for disabled children by providing them with specially built sports’ wheelchairs so they can do marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, mountain skiing, rugby, basketball etc. Get Kids Going! also helps and encourages British disabled children to compete by supporting them with their sports; training, physiotherapy, travel, design and development of sports’ wheelchairs. With your help many could become record holders and Paralympic champions! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE dig deep & give a donation to these charities as every little bit helps.

Ross & I will keep you updated on our progress..........& I will get over that finish line before my husband!!!

If you would like to post a cheque please send to 3, High View Road, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM2 5BQ
